What Did Waste Expo Australia Do This Year To Demonstrate Their Journey To Net Zero Waste?
We promote the use of reusable cups and bottles onsite to reduce waste. Discounts on hot beverages are available for those using a reusable cup at participating venues.
QR codes will be used for onsite registration, removing the use of paper forms, counters, and labour.
We are working with venues to provide additional waste streams and better signage for waste disposal.
Plant Silk lanyards are manufactured from eco friendly materials such as waste stems of grain crops, and various other plant materials. The fabric is biodegradable and sustainable. Lanyard bins will be provided at the entrance and exit of the event.
Our floorplan and conference agenda are available digitally to allow easy access from your device of choice, and reduce the amount of material we print.
RX offers sustainable stand packages for exhibitor upgrades and have introduced sustainable criteria for custom stand designs to raise awareness and to promote exhibitors to use sustainable alternatives.
Digital signage is used where possible, and we strive to reuse all printed signage as much as possible for future events.
Water stations are provided within the halls for your reusable vessels.
We’ve worked closely with the venue to reduce the amount of carpet used throughout the exhibition.
All custom stands are put through our sustainable criteria program, to raise awareness and promote exhibitors with custom stands to use sustainable alternatives in their stand and design build.
A contracted stand build system is hired with a high re-use program; this includes recyclable signage and LED lighting. We also have controlled power and lighting schedules in place to reduce the electricity usage when not required.
Zero Waste Café
New to 2024, Waste Expo Australia and the MCEC are proud to present the Zero Waste Café. We are excited to invite you into our Zero Waste Café to experience the below carefully curated initiatives:
- Sustainable replacements for one-use coffee cups, along with discount for those that bring their own reusable cups.
- All food offerings served with crockery & cutlery
- All cold beverages to be served in glass bottles
- No packaged foods/snacks
- No landfill bins to be located at the café
- Increased waste streams located at the café – organics, cans/bottles, paper/cardboard
No landfill bin? No problem! Everything at Waste Expo's Café is either reusable, recyclable or biodegradable, therefore can go into one of the recycle bins. Unsure what goes in which bin? Don’t worry – there’ll be reminders in the lead up to the show and at the show itself.

The RX Journey to Net Zero Carbon Events
Decarbonising the events industry, together. At RX, we’re serious about sustainability. We are founding members of the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge to make our company, our events and the wider events industry net zero. We commit to being net zero by 2040 and to make a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. In 2023 we published our pathway to net zero, setting out our reduction strategy with key milestones for all our events. Given the complex nature of our supply chain and the emissions associated with a show, it is only by working together as an industry that we will be able to reduce our impact. The RX roadmap to Net Zero sets out how we will reduce carbon emissions and waste at all our events along with supporting venues to make sustainable supplier choices and power our events with clean, renewable energy sources.

We are building a company of net zero heroes to take action and ensure a sustainable future. It’s only by working together as an energy industry that we will achieve our goals.
